"If It's Going To Be...It's Up To Me" a poem by JD Walker

I was networking the other day with a good friend named JD Walker and he shared a poem that he wrote on "Choice" and I wanted to share it with you.  Thanks JD, wise words that will hopefully help others in the same boat!

IF IT’S GOING TO BE, IT’S UP TO ME…IT’S ALL ABOUT CHOICE!

Do I look at the bright side and say YEA, or the dark side and say NAH?

            If it’s going to be, it’s up to me…it’s ALL about choice!

Do I focus on the loss of job and sob or the possibility of positive change and smile?

            If it’s going to be, it’s up to me…it’s ALL about choice!

Do I start each day with a plan, or cross my fingers and hope for the best?

If it’s going to be, it’s up to me…it’s ALL about choice!

Is it ALL about me or am I looking help and assist others with needs greater than mine?

If it’s going to be, it’s up to me…it’s ALL about choice!

Do I let this circumstance crush me, or do I see it as a time of personal growth?

If it’s going to be, it’s up to me…it’s ALL about choice!

Do I ask “What can I do for you?” or do I solely concentrate on what I can do for me?

If it’s going to be, it’s up to me…it’s ALL about choice!

Note: JD Walker was laid off after 9+ years with a Phoenix company in an executive level management position.  He spent 18 months in job search working several part-time gigs until landing a full-time position with a training company in Phoenix.  He suffered major challenges financially, physically, relationally, spiritually and emotionally yet used the “choice model” listed above to help him through that dry time in the desert.  He spends some of his 168 hours a week networking and helping others as they struggle in their own career advancement challenges.  You may also find him at a Career Connectors meeting!
